Why do Christians fall?

“Michael was losing the will to live. Life hadn’t been kind on him. He was tired of not keeping a job. He was tired of being alone. Alcohol, gambling, spending time with ‘friends’ were the only things that gave him some pleasure, but they couldn’t fill the ever-growing emptiness he had inside. Those habits were taking a toll on his health – he was starting to feel ill.

That was until a friend who he hadn’t seen in a while gave him a magazine and invited him to come to the church. Michael was surprised when he saw how good his friend was doing and he decided to check the church for himself.

The first day he came he felt a little awkward, but when he went back home he felt peace. He hadn’t felt like that for a long time. He had to keep going to the church. Slowly, listening to the pastor’s advice in the services, persevering in the chain of prayer he started to see a significant difference. Soon he gave his life to Jesus and was baptised. He realised he needed God.

Now he had plans. Who could stop him? The future ahead of him looked bright. He felt strong, invincible.

One day, one his old ‘glass companions’ called him and asked if he wanted to go out with his ‘mates’. Michael said he didn’t know about that. He was a different person now. His ‘friend’ insisted, after all they hadn’t been together in a while. Michael politely turned the offer down.

The problem started after he hung up. The devil started to whisper on his ear, ‘what are you doing? You have no friends anymore. Don’t you miss those times? Just because you’re a Christian, that doesn’t mean you can’t go out and have fun. Having just one drink is OK.’ This argument went on for days inside his mind.
